Fighting Chance Productions closes its 11th season with the Tony-winning musical Guys & Dolls featuring performers from some of the best training institutions across Canada including Capilano University, Studio 58, University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University and the Canadian College of Performing Arts.
“Guys & Dolls is one of the greatest musicals ever written,” says artistic director Ryan Mooney, “and our production featuring graduates and current students from some of the finest theatre training grounds in North America should do justice to this historic show.”.
He's a gambler, she's a missionary worker. Sky Masterson and Sarah Brown are an unlikely match made in musical comedy heaven. Toss in a hypchondriac in Miss Adelaide, a chronic gambler in Nathan Detroit and a host of quirky characters and it all adds up to one of the best musicals of the last century.
Fighting Chance's version has director Jennifer Suratos at the helm. Suratos, a frequent FCP performer, is joined by newcomer music director Marquis Byrd and co-choreographers Rachael Carlson and Amanda Lau.
“Jenn aims to honour the original source material, with a few twists,” says Mooney, “Jenn is one of my favourite performers and I'm thrilled she's closing out this season with this show. I've also been a fan of Marquis' work for a long time and the combination of Rachael and Amanda is going to make this a not-to-be missed summer show.”
Guys & Dolls stars Scott McGowan as Sky Masterson and Ranae Miller (Mary Poppins at TUTS last season) as Sarah Brown. It also features Charlie Deagnon (CTC winner for FCP's The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as Nathan Detroit, Mandy Rushton as Miss Adelaide and Argel Monte de Ramos as Nicely-Nicely Johnson.
