Our cities are changing into places where working people can’t survive. New labour movements need to take the current labour conditions into account and rethink union organizing. Job precariousness are impediments against effective union organizing. That’s why we need to step outside artificial barriers that keep us apart and organize at-large. The new labour movements have to include all of us and incorporate grassroots social movements values and approaches. How do we work together across movements to bridge the gap between union organizing, municipal elections, and grassroots social movements?
The speakers tonight are coming from different grassroots organizations and each will speak of their own experience organizing for the city that we all need and their ideas of collaborating across movements. We will then discuss and develop the tools to create an action plan for how working people can fight back and build the city we need.
Join us in this interactive dialogue with TSSU Members and Vancouver Municipal Election Candidates Derrick O'Keefe and Dr. John Irwin, along with TSSU Chief Steward Lillian Deeb, Vancouver Tenants Union Organizers Sydney Ball & David Henry, and SRO Collaborative organizer Jack Gates.
