The Vancouver Free Market returns to Grandview Park!
Every two weeks, the Free Market celebrates life without money. We do it to build community, share skills, food, ideas and things with each other. We do it to express our rejection of the current economic, capitalist, consumerism-created spiral we are traveling down down down.
did you know there has been free market every Sunday since March of 2016? with the collaboration of the Bridgeview Free Market's bi-weekly events every second Sunday opposite to The Vancouver Free Market!
The Free Market was born on Friday, December 23rd, 2011 at The Vancouver Art Gallery after the injunction was served against the Vancouver Occupy movements tent city group. some of the remaining participants decided to gather together every second Sunday afternoon and share their wealth celebrating life without money. only to move two months later to Grandview Park on February 12th 2012. It was agreed that for the most part all that was needed had already been created so we need not take part in the consumer rat race and start using what we have. striving to build community, share necessities, food, skills, crafts, ideas, advice, and extra things with one another. expressing our rejection of the current economic, capitalist, consumerism-created spiral we are traveling down down down. the crew changes seasonally, as so does the support from other community organizations, but the spirit of the latest installments have held true to its roots. taking many shapes over the years, it has been put on by many great souls sharing and creating for community. continuing to touch and reshape itself for the better of the people, who gain as much as they share. even the smallest amount of devotion helps pull this thing together, we all have something to give. If we are to evolve out of this consumerist culture we need both ordinary and extraordinary folks like Ethan, Len, Gerrard, Shannon, Bernadette, Daniel, Robyn, Emma, Steven, Devin, Dayla, Jille, Mathew, Trevor, and you to step up and volunteer a day, an hour or even just 10 minutes to the cause as we work towards a brighter more sustainable future.
